Diversity Responsive Educators: A Vision and Approach for Powerful Learning for Every Student

Diversity Responsive Educators: A Vision and Approach for Powerful Learning for Every Student

In this text, an integral framework for diversity-responsive education is presented, which starts from the observation that diversity is a reality in every classroom and offers added value for learning and society.

The text is divided into six parts: (1) Introduction, (2) Diversity: a Broad Definition, (3) Diversity in Education: not new yet urgent, (4) Engaging with classroom diversity: Taking a Stand, (5) Ingerdients for Diversity-Responsive Education, (6) Learning about, for & In Diversity.

This vision framework can guide educational professionals in fostering diveristy-responsive education. It is particularly relevant for pre-service teachers and teacher educators, as it offers concrete guidance on what it means for education to be diversity-responsive, why it is essential in our society, and how it can be given concrete form in educational practice (i.e., in terms of mindset, pedagogy and partnerships). The framework further serves as a reflective tool for programme leaders seeking to align their institutional vision and curriculum with principles of equity and diversity.
