My professional identity under the magnifying glass: reflection exercises for student teachers

These reflection exercises for student teachers are derived from the LieSS internship course at KU Leuven School of Education. The course includes two intervision sessions designed to help student teachers reflect on their internship experiences within a diverse educational environment.

The original PowerPoint materials for these intervisions have been reworked into a single document that captures their core themes and theoretical frameworks. The resource is organized into five parts:

Intervision 1

– The “onion-model” of Korthagen & Vasalos (2007)
– Environment: learning in diversity: broad observation as a basic attitude (Sierens, 2007)
– Beliefs: diversity ideologies (Agirdag, 2020)
– Core qualities (Ofman, 2001)

Intervision 2

– Pedagogical reasoning / weighing alternative approaches (van Kan, 2012; 2021)
– Moving beyond bias: towards factual thinking (Kahneman, 2016)

This document offers a series of ready-to-use exercises that build on one another and can be applied directly or adapted by teacher educators working with student teachers.

Grounded in theory, these exercises align closely with professor Orhan Agirdag’s message in his ED-TED podcast about the importance of connecting reflection to theoretical insights.

This resource is available in both Dutch and English.
