Website differentiation in education: what to do as a teacher educator
In Flemish teacher education, differentiation is viewed as a core competence that student teachers must develop throughout their training, which makes it so that it cannot be addressed in a single course. This resource provides an overview of key success factors that can be supportive during these teaching and guidance moments. These lesson- and support moments can guide both individual teacher educators and entire educator teams or institutions in strengthening their approach to diversity and differentiation.
For individual teacher educators, the resource identifies five categories: profile, process, climate, involvement, and transparency. Each category explains what works in practice, gives screening questions, shares good practices, and suggests concrete steps for improvement. Teacher educators can use these categories as a framework for reflection, planning, or adapting their own teaching practices.
At the team or institutional level, the resource encourages reflection on broader themes such as: ‘teach as you preach’, differentiation as a professional attitude, peer learning among educators, and preparing students through strong classroom management and diverse internship contexts.
Ultimately, this resource provides clear, practical guidance with concrete examples that support educators and institutions in embedding differentiation and diversity as integral elements of teacher preparation.
