The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Timeline is a resource designed for teacher educators to engage student teachers in a critical analysis of educational policies related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
In this activity, participants work in groups of three to five to examine their country’s educational policies. They identify six key benchmarks that they consider most significant in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in education, particularly within teacher education. Each group must justify their selections based on evidence and discussion, fostering a deeper understanding of policy development and its implications. To support this process, participants will use coloured pens, post it notes, and tape to organise and present their findings effectively. Access to relevant educational policies is essential for conducting a well-informed analysis.
The findings will be shared through a Gallery Walk, where groups present their timelines, engage in peer discussions, and respond to comments and questions. This collaborative approach encourages critical reflection and knowledge exchange.
This resource is highly adaptable to different educational contexts. To facilitate its implementation, an advanced printable timeline is available.
By engaging with this activity, student teachers will enhance their policy literacy, develop a critical perspective on diversity, equity and inclusion, and develop essential skills for fostering inclusive educational environments.
